Merrit’s desires were instinctual, feral needs. Feral needs to destroy his parents’ humanity and conscript them into Genghis Khan’s army of the dead.

His father Clayton was the first to scream as the shock of Merrit’s approach stuttered his mother’s windpipe. Merrit staggered toward them, his right arm sluggish but his teeth bared, tense hands grasping.
